Gas management is essential for the commercial success of a landfill and of a landfill gas utilisation project:
- It forms the basis for the feasibility of various utilisation options
- It leads to better anticipation of changes in gas quality and quantity (and identifies if any other gas treatment facilities such as gas cleaning are necessary), promoting:
- More operational availabilities
- Higher revenues (from carbon credits or power sales)
- Enables the company to comply with the several requirements of CDM and JI projects (e.g. the requirement for regular reporting).
The services provided include:
- Technical monitoring of landfills, in particular the development of the gas production
- Survey and preparing of gas prognoses and gas analysis
- Monitoring and securing quality management of all regular emission measurements at landfill gas utilisation plants (including all peripheral equipment)
- Compliance management:
- Execution of administrative aspects in the context of the respective national authorisation procedures (for plant installations) and for regular surveys
- Health and safety aspects.
- Consultancy services for project development business units within Green Gas covering landfill management, waste disposal technologies, measuring techniques
- Coordination with and supervision of external institutions and laboratories over emission measurements.
Gas Cleaning (LFG) Challenge
In many landfills the existing gas either cannot be used, or may be used only to a limited extent, due to high levels of pollutants being present. Project profitability is only achievable if the presence of pollutants like siloxanes or sulphur in the gas is contained. Clean gas lowers operating risks and costs and promotes higher project returns, through continuity of operations.
Besides other trace elements, organic silicon-compounds such as siloxans are critical elements in landfill gas. When combusted, Siloxanes transform into silicon-dioxides in the combustion chamber and deposit harmful sediment on the machinery parts. The crystalline deposits work like sand on the flexible motor components. For essential machinery, this can lead to the:
- Lapse of warranties
- Invalidation of insurance coverage
- Higher equipment abrasion
- Higher maintenance and operating costs
- Equipment failure etc.
Green Gas provides gas cleaning solutions including:
- Gas Cooling (which serves to dehumidify the gas)
- Gas Scrubbing
- Gas Drying (an additional step to avoid the gas becoming humid again)
- Gas Cleaning by active coal (the gas is filtered via active coal).
We are able to provide an innovative gas cleaning system, which is superior to conventional systems in terms of cleaning power and costs. It is based on gas scrubbing via a specially developed additive, which dissolves most of the organic silicon-compound.
